THE WHY: I Am Abel Law Foundation, Inc. seeks to bridge socioeconomic gaps and promote achievement among underrepresented minorities in the legal profession.

Our programming and initiatives focus on uplifting and advancing Black, Hispanic and Latinx students– at the high school, collegiate levels and law school level– as they pursue studies and careers in law and policy. Mentorship, test preparation, admission process assistance and introduction to introductory law and policy concepts are integral to I Am Abel Law Foundation’s mission.

THE INSPIRATION: I Am Abel Law Foundation is proud to be the sister organization to I Am Abel Foundation, Inc. whose mission is to identify, engage and curate the large pool of untapped gifts, talent and intellect amongst our inner city youth, with the singular goal of raising the next generation of Healthcare Heroes. Focused on the medical profession, I Am Abel Foundation works to advance Black and Hispanic students in the fields of research and medicine by preparing underrepresented youth to serve their communities with passion, purpose and excellence.

I Am Abel Law was formed after watching the success of I Am Abel Law’s sister organization, I Am Abel. As a proud African-American and Afro-Latina of Cuban heritage, founder Christian Conway, like her mother, was moved to bring more African-Americans and Hispanic Students into the legal field. If this legal profession is to mirror the clients it serves, it is pivotal to have proper representation.

Christian A. Conway, Esq. is the President and Founder of I Am Abel Law Foundation, Inc. She was born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science and a minor in Spanish from Emory University. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and currently works as a Restructuring and Real Estate Associate at a prominent minority owned boutique law firm in Chicago.

With a professional background in Civil and Criminal Law, Christian began working extensively with non-profit organizations starting in law school. While in law school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she served as a local chapter president, the Mid-West Regional Treasurer and, ultimately, the National Treasurer of the National Black Law Students Association, Inc. (NBLSA) and, upon graduation, joined I Am Abel Foundation, Inc. as a board member.
